Bolton Resource Management Tract Plan

Does not look well for mountain biking even though a recent household survey stated that over 50% of residents of Caledon do mountain bike. Lets hope we fair better with the Nashville Resource Management Tract Plan.

Steps on a local Bolton trail that is held into place by a nailed angle iron. A really bad idea if someone slips on the ice and lands on it. The cut would be horrific.

Birds are loving the suet feeders we put out for them.

First pic shows how much water is dumped into the river from the thaw. The ice is still
there but the water is flowing over top of it.

The second picture shows how the ice is lifted when water finds a way to get underneath.

You can see where the water exits in the right of the picture. When the ice lets go it tends to be a chain reaction and quite a spectacle.

The BMBC is a community based mountain bike club/volunteer group in the town of Bolton . The purpose of the club/group is to build/maintain trails and advocate for mountain biking along the Humber River . Our goal is to show community stewardship, maintain the natural surroundings and heritage while building sustainable trails for all stakeholders. There is no cost to join our group. We feel that a fee creates an economic barrier for
involvement.
The BMBC is a IMBA ( International Mountain Biking Association) member club. All approved trail construction/maintenance follows IMBA standards. Trail days are lead under certified trail crew leaders who have been trained in the various methods of trail layout and construction by IMBA. Any chainsaw work is preformed by a certified bucking/felling (OFSWA standard) operator with full safety gear. All trail work is insured through http://www.oasisinsurance.ca/ins/imba.html or other authorities.

We look forward as a small community group to partake in the "Living City" vision. We have within our group a wide spectrum of experience, everything from green roof /floating wetland construction/urban agriculture to highly experienced trail builders. We hope that we will be included/considered for stewardship in the Bolton/Nashville Tract and increase the recreational opportunities of all stakeholders in the Town of Bolton. If you have any questions we can be reached by e-mail.

The conditions where perfect. The ice is quite thick on the sides of the river and made for an interesting ride.

There's enough snow in Bolton for the back country ski's already. Above highway 9 some
areas have up to 80cm's. It will be a few days before the trails are packed down for riding.

Was a community day in Palgrave Forest with Caledon Club (trail leaders) and the BMBC helping out repair/reroute trails. A few pedal catcher stumps where remove as well as a really nice flow section was built. All chainsaw work is done by an Ontario Forestry certified operator.

A few of the regulars got out to Mono. The ground was dry, but rocks where slippery.

Last year we went to Joyride on Dec. 24 for a great day of hacking around.
It was great, we had the the bike park to ourselves. They have both an XC
loop and all sorts of other features for all skill levels. We plan to repeat again
this year depending on which day is best christmas eve/day/boxing.

-roll out of Bolton 9:00am
-pot luck lunch around 12:30pm
-wrap it up 4:00pm

Checked out the east side of the river on the nashville tract. the weather was quite nice, found a few old roads, some great trail possibilities. The sad part is trash dumping has increased in the area (see pics).

Great weather though.

Hog weed is turning out to be a real problem closer to the river. you can see the dead stalks with the seed heads in this picture.

Watched hydro helicopters crews ferry loads to the top of the transmission towers.

Had the privilage of talking to the pilot and sitting in that helicoptor during the Bolton heliport open house.

Snowing out, ground was a little soft. Rode up to Glen Haffy.

Checked out the construction work going on by the Humber. I guess it is in the name of naturlization, though I think it could have been done with less impact. It looks like they had the wrong tools for the job.

It would be more efficient to use specialized equipment such as this:
